Match Preview: Aston Villa vs Blackburn Rovers

Just 12 months ago, Aston Villa were on route to Wembely, after beating Blackburn in the semi-final stage of the League Cup.

Today, Villa are in desperate need of 3 points against Blackburn at Villa Park on Saturday, as they sit just 2 points outside of the drop-zone even though they have only lost 1 of their last 6 games.

For Blackburn, attention has turned away from football, after New Zealand international Ryan Nelsen was left heartbroken after his hometown of Christchurch was hit by a giant earthquake during the week. But Nelsen has shown courage, telling his manager he wants to play on Saturday afternoon.

Aston Villa will be without Jean II Makoun after the midfielder copped a 3 week suspension at Bloomfield Road after he was sent off.

Villa will also be without defensive duo Carlos Cuellar and James Collins after they both sustained serious injuries but will welcome the return of left-back Luke Young.

Blackburn captain Chris Samba and Gael Givet have both overcome respective viruses and injuries.

And as previously mentioned, Ryan Nelsen is included at his own request.

PREDICTION: Aston Villa 4-1 Blackburn Rovers
