Atletico Madrid earned three hard-fought points in their quest for a Europa League spot against one of La Liga’s surprise packages this season Levante. Winter signing Elias opened the scoring for Quique Sanchez Flores’ men, but Felipe Caicedo equalised from the spot before half-time. Sergio Aguero popped up with a brace in the second period, and Gustavo Munua scored an own-goal to wrap up an important 4-1 victory for the hosts.

Levante managed to get one back in the 39th minute when Caicedo converted a spot-kick conceded by midfielder Mario Suarez. The striker brought up his tally to 13 goals in 23 games with the equaliser, giving the visitors hope for the second half of the game.
Aguero was not in a forgiving mood after the restart as a quick brace by the Argentinian striker decided what was a tight affair. His first strike in the 50th minute came under fortunate circumstances as he first saw a shot blocked by Sergio Ballesteros, but luckily for him the ball fell right into his path and he made no mistake with his volley from outside the box.
Aguero’s second strike came from the spot in the 70th minute after Diego Costa earned a penalty from Ballesteros with a disgraceful dive. Munua scored an own-goal in the 84th minute to put the icing on the cake for Quique Sanchez Flores’ men.
